Devon is a large county in the southwestern of England, sometimes called Devonshire whichis not correct as officially it was never a shire. The name Devon comes from the Celtic population that lived in this region at the time of the Roman invasion. Devon is a very interesting place for a geologist, in fact there is even a geological period called the Devonian. Devon has two coasts one in North Devon and one in South Devon both are a paradise for anyone interested in geology but also for anyone who enjoys good views and is looking to relax a bit. The North Devon;s coast has very high and spectacular cliffs including the well known Great Hangman which is the highest cliff in Southern England and has a footpath that goes across it if you are not scared of heights, The South Devon coast is well known for the Jurassic Coast which is now a World Heritage site. You can walk all the way from the the beginning of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset to the end in Devon.
Devon has also two major national parks, Exmoor National Park and Dartmoor National Park with plenty to see and explore. If you think that these old illustrations created in 1906 are lovely, you should be reassure that the landscapes and views of Devon are still beautiful now.
